International Standard Serial Number - ISSN is an international standard serial number that is assigned to periodicals regardless of the country in which they are published.

The number consists of an abbreviation and eight digits separated by a hyphen. It is assigned to printed publications, as well as electronic publications (posted on the Internet, on CDs or microdata).

The serial number is assigned by the ISSN Center. This is an international institution with an office in Paris; there is no official representative office in Ukraine. Information about the publication is entered into the international register. To do this, you need to fill out an electronic form.

If you do not have time to obtain an ISSN personally, you can entrust this service to the employees of RegService. In addition, we also provide related services - we include publications in the List of Scientific Publications, place them on the Scientific Periodicals platform, and register the media. We also provide assistance in obtaining a barcode based on ISSN.

    About the service

In some countries, ISSN is assigned on a mandatory basis to any periodical. In Ukraine, only scientific specialized publications are required to have a serial number, while others are identified at the request of the publisher.

The serial number is assigned once to one title (a separate number is not required for each issue) of a printed or electronic journal and does not change during the existence of the publication. The ISSN can be changed only in case of a title change. Changes in the publishing house that publishes the journal, the location of the editorial office, or the periodicity are not grounds for assigning a different ISSN.

If the same publication with the same title is published in different versions, printed and electronic, each of them is assigned its own ISSN.

The international identifier in print media is placed in the upper left corner of the second page of the cover, often also in footers, in online media - next to the title, on the home page. If the issue of a publication is recorded on a disk, it is placed on its surface or cover.

A special procedure for obtaining an ISSN is provided for new publications. To do this, the registrar is sent a sample layout of the magazine or cover, as well as a page containing information about the publisher - its name, location, and registration information. After the first issue is published, the finished layout is sent, and the serial number is finally assigned.

Until recently, obtaining a serial number was free, but now the registrar has to pay 25 euros.

    How we work

    • You submit an application for ISSN assignment.
    • You provide information about the publication and the publisher.
    • We receive the number and send it to you.

The timeframe for obtaining an ISSN depends on the time of payment confirmation and the review of the application by the Center's representatives.
