The current Land Code establishes three forms of land ownership: private, state, and municipal. To be able to fully dispose of a land plot, to be authorized to sell it, donate it, or inherit it, the land plot must be privately owned by an individual or legal entity. The registration of land ownership involves, first of all, entering data on the land plot into the State Register of Real Property Rights.
Until 2013, the right to own a land plot was confirmed by a state certificate of ownership issued by the State Land Committee. Today, registration of ownership of a land plot requires issuance of a certificate from the State Register; until 2016, a certificate of land ownership was issued.
How to register land ownership in Ukraine?
- The necessary documents are prepared.
- The owner applies to a notary or administrative service center with a package of documents and an application. An administrative fee of 0.1 times the minimum wage in the country is paid. If you apply to a notary, you also pay for his or her services. The registrar checks the documents, signs the application on the spot and issues a card of acceptance of the application.
- The process of registering property rights takes about 5 business days. On the day the decision on registration is made, the registrar hands over or sends the submitted documents to the applicant by registered mail. Information from the registry can now be obtained through the Ministry of Justice's electronic services cabinet. Upon request, a printed version of the certificate is provided on an A4 form, without the signature and seal of the Ministry. No signature and stamp are required: electronic and paper certificates have the same legal force.
