EU declaration of conformity

What the EU declaration of conformity is

It is the document by which the manufacturer or its authorised representative declares that the product meets all applicable EU requirements and takes responsibility for it. It is drawn up before the CE mark is affixed. Where several EU acts apply, a single declaration lists all of them.

Mandatory content

• product identification: model, type, batch or serial number;
• name and address of the manufacturer or authorised representative;
• a statement that the declaration is issued under the sole responsibility of the manufacturer;
• object of the declaration allowing traceability, with a photo where appropriate;
• the EU harmonisation legislation the product complies with;
• references to harmonised standards or other specifications applied;
• notified body details and certificate, where one was involved;
• place and date of issue, name, function and signature of the signatory.

Common mistakes we fix

• references to repealed directives or outdated standard versions;
• incomplete list of acts: electrical appliances usually fall under Directives 2014/35/EU (low voltage), 2014/30/EU (EMC) and 2011/65/EU (RoHS) at the same time;
• declaration signed by a seller without authority from the manufacturer;
• no unambiguous model identification;
• declaration language not accepted in the country of sale.
